Can I use gas tube arrestors for power protection? All the circuits I see use it for input overvoltage protection (such as telecom and sensors). But
it seems to me that it should be good for power, as it will protect the MOVs from exploding in case of extreme overvoltage--as long as it can handle
enough spark current to trip the fuse. I'm a bit worried about using it together with polyswitch (resettable fuse) as that lowers the current rather
than stops it, so it could keep the GDT sparking until it melts. Alternatively, I was thinking of using the polyswitch with MOVs, and then in front
of that a fuse with GDT where the fuse has higher current rating than the polyswitch trip current, so that it handles the really bad cases. What do
you guys think?
