http://www.unitednuclear.com/negx.htm
(Ammonium Nitrate + Zinc + Ammonium Chloride + Water ignites)

I've searched on google (and on this board) but I can't find which reaction takes place :(

I suppose something happend when they are dissolved but ammonium nitrate is so endothermic that it must be something else...

Can somebody helps me ?

I remember a looong time ago chewdog was talking about that on BS.I'll search for the thread when I have a bit more time but I doubt it's still there(he was explaining something rather embearisng by todays standerds).

Anyways he said that negative X was zinc and ammonium chloride. The reaction I think was water absorbing the CL(quite violent)and the zinc added just for the flash.

Hey did you gfet that in sweden?

ammonium chloride dissolves endothermically too.
remember: these salts are both acidic and very soluble in water.....(A word to the wise is sufficient)

Could the NH4Cl -> NH3 + HCl and then HCl react with Zn giving lot of heat ?
