Tetrafluoro ammonium salts

Well. I would think the Tetrafluoro ammaonia salts would be fantastic. Wikipedia said the salts are used for gas generators.

I can’t find any further information.

But if Tetrafluoro ammonium nitrate exist. That’s a LOT of oxidizing power.

Does this molecule exist? What others can you dream of with this ion..?

Wiki also says they are prepared from NF3 and fluorine gas at elevated temperatures, are extremely hygroscopic, and decompose on contact with water so they're wholly off the table. It also specifies that the nitrate salt cannot be prepared as it forms fluorine nitrate and NF3 instead.

I am sure a sufficiently mad amateur could synthesize it. The most straight forward path i think is the chlorination of a mixture of Nitrogen Trichloride and your lewis acid of choice in Carbon Tetrachloride. The lewis acid might make the Nitrogen Trichloride more stable too, it is a project on my to do list.

It mentioned some of the salts are used as gas generators... so if there stable enough for airbag generators.
