I guess your glass lathe has to very accurately turn the head chuck and tail chuck together. Is that done with very accurate gears or anti backlash gears or how is it done?

Chemetix - 8-10-2019 at 22:10

Hi best wishes for the business from another scientific blower. Do you have an Insta or on FB?

Magpie - 9-10-2019 at 09:19

Best wishes to a fellow Vandal. I'll keep you in mind for my next blown glass project.

I'm actually not sure about the mechanism that makes that work. I'll ask a machinist next time I'm around one. Would be curious to find that out as well.

Hello, there! Did you go to Salem?
I do not have an insta or facebook for the business at the moment. Might get a small presence on those eventually.

Clear_horizons_glass - 8-10-2020 at 23:28

Hey, yall. The website has been on and off for a moment. Working on that.
Still open for projects though. Or if you happen to be looking for a particular piece of glassware.
email info@clearhorizonsglass.com and let me know what I can do for ya.

Dr.Bob - 9-10-2020 at 16:45

You have any friends in NC? There is actually a place near here, but just as was going to visit, Covid started so I still have not stopped by there yet. I would love to find a small, new place, as I have lots of parts and pieces (oodles of stopcocks and joints) that I would love to trade for minor work and repairs, but established places don't want to do that. But best of luck in your work.

Clear_horizons_glass - 10-10-2020 at 18:59

Hey, Dr. Bob. I do not know any glassblowers over there.
Here is a link to the directory listing for the southwest section of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society. You may be able to find someone not to far from there.
Other than that, I'm more than happy to do some repairs for ya at a discount in exchange for some things.
(Could really use some 14mm Inner joints, kevlar rope, or ring stand clamps)
Shoot me a message or an email at info@clearhorizonsglass.com

Bumping this thread to say that I had Clear Horizons do a small glassware project for me (borosilicate sheathes for thermocouple probes) and I'm very happy with the results. Communication was fast, turnaround on the job was quick, and everything was packed and shipped securely. If you need any sort of glassblowing send them an email, they're good to do business with.

I cant find the site. Being the old www prefix most servers ignore it. it's not secure.

Clear_horizons_glass - 13-11-2020 at 02:20

Is it working for everyone else?

Clear_horizons_glass - 13-11-2020 at 02:22

Clear_horizons_glass - 14-11-2020 at 13:53

Seems like the web forum is having problems. I'll look into it.
But yes I can work silica, borosilicate, and soft glass to a degree.
Feel free to message me viat the u2u messaging or email me for a project, macckone.

Torch talk, and several others. I'm just an amateur small time scientific glass 'shaper' for the most part. But I did post my computer fan, voltage controlled forced air + propane lampworking torch and people liked it, and sent me to another group that i'm waiting to be approved to get in to.

  • I am an IT Systems guy by trade though. Looks like you may have resolved this, but FYI, Google Domains charges $5 a year for a domain name, optional $5/month for the full GSuite package, including a free website on their domain, but all I did was add cname DNS record to my www.domain.com and it redirects smoothly, and basically i get everything that godaddy would charge $100 a month for, for like $5!

    there should always be a
    c record:
    www@ -> @
    that will fix that issue.

I offer all charitable/small/involved in things I like small business 2 free hours of support. Feel free to reach out.

    Dr. Bob:
I have friends in a few parts of NC. Also that's where the best wholesale glass stalk website operates out of.
I'll ask, what's the most difficult repair by your best guess out of the repairs you need?

    Dr.Bob - 1-12-2020 at 08:20

I have boxes of various broken glassware, from star cracked rbfs to filter flasks with broken vacuum inlets, to addition funnels with broken equil. tubes. Also, a fair number of just stuck joints and various pieces. I am trying to sort out some to send to Clear Horizons to try out. If you know people in NC that might be interested in some work, I would be interested, there used to be many glass places around here, but most I knew are gone now, except Prism. I would really like to trade some items for repairs, but am willing to pay cash to fix high value things.

    Clear_horizons_glass - 7-7-2021 at 16:48

Hey everybody! Just wanted to say I'm still doing repairs and custom scientific glassblowing work for chemists in Pullman, Washington. Please let me know if there's anyway I can be of service to y'all.

    Dr.Bob - 7-7-2021 at 18:45

He repaired a box of glassware for me, and did a fine job. I had forgotten to post a not e here, but he is a great resource, especially for west coast people. (shipoping is high from east to west coast and increasing.)

    macckone - 8-7-2021 at 06:50

He did some fused quartz work for me.
    It was good work.

    Clear_horizons_glass - 8-7-2021 at 16:58

Glad to hear that, Macckone. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for ya.

    Rainwater - 3-5-2023 at 15:19

Made a nice distillation adapter for me. Works like a champ

    Clear_horizons_glass - 3-5-2023 at 21:15

That's great, Rainwater. Yeah if anyone else needs anything made or fixed, let me know.
I'll try to be more diligent about posting pictures of my work.

Here are some y-tube olfactometers I made for a university. They are used for soil science research involving weevils
