Political message in signature?

TmNhRhMgBrSe - 22-3-2020 at 22:13

Political message in signature not allowed? I never hear this rule.

This is chemistry forum, we shouldn't mix things up as it just makes it harder.

Matter of politics is very delicate and some people can't resist to go into discussion and often argument about it.
I have seen many of these situations and it's not this trivial.

So please don't distract others from actual chemistry

Also a great way to get the forum banned in China.

What would the difference between politics in a message and politics in a message.... Oh, wait, there is none. So I would say even this question is a bit dumb. It sounds like "oh look at me, I have found a loophole so I can do something I otherwise couldn't, I'm so smart!".

This forum bans the discussion of political topics that are not DIRECTLY related to amateur chemistry (i.e. essentially all political topics). This is to keep things on topic and avoid creating feuds and rifts between members over stuff that is not relevant to the forum in the first place. This goes for signatures just as well as posts.

@CELamCheng, please change your signature (and your mood while you’re at it...) within the next 24 hours.

Why does that matter? The whole world seems to be rushing to not offend the great offender (China).

Our friend is from HK... it is understandable he would have a strong opinion and view of a country trying to oppress his freedom... wait not trying... actually oppressing. We should cut him slack. Lots of it.

I think this post should go to Detritus. The OP asked their question, they got their answer. We don't need it active for more political comments.

MineMan: Dude's signature was really intense. I guess if he had just said "Free Hong Kong" we might have all looked the other way. We work with dangerous things here, so combativeness in political discussion has the potential to get somebody hurt. We might not catch every single political comment that gets made but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be keeping a lid on things.

zts16: There are others with political signatures on here. I'm not going to name names, but consistency might be appreciated.

TmNhRhMgBrSe - 15-4-2020 at 06:45

clearlynotatara: free ** is wrong sentence, should be liberate **, because free also means no need to pay money.
Deathunter: CCP ban this forum none of my business.
About above 2 sentences I won't say more.
I dont want to talk too many politics because forum not allow and my english is rubbish.

Please do name names (to me via U2U), as I have no idea who you’re referring to.

Anyway I think it’s time to close this thread.
