CaCl2 trap on vacuum pump?

Fyndium - 14-2-2021 at 02:42

Can CaCl2 trap be used after/before cold trap to prevent water entering the vacuum pump?

I don't think so, CaCl2 will lose water in low humidity air so probably in a vacuum as well. Maybe Cao would work but I don't think it would be very efficient.

As for any question, the best answer is to try it out, and I shall when I vacuum distill stuff next time. Calcium chloride clings to the last hydrates so tightly that unless heated, it should retain them pretty well even under high vacuum.
