What company to buy glassware from

chaosday - 25-12-2021 at 09:46

Recently I bought some glassware online and it turned out to be cheap and shitty Chinese stuff. I have sent it back, and now I am looking for a company that produces reliably good glassware that isn't too expensive. On amazon I have found StonyLab, which seems pretty good. Should I buy my glassware from StonyLab, or are there any other companies that I should buy from?

Go to Dr.Bob he has a sticky at the top of the this section. Science equipment looking for a home or something like that. I have purchased from him for years now. All his glassware came out of a lab so it is not the cheap stuff. Very happy with his brand of service!

Which brand of Chinese lab glass did you buy? Chinese glassware isn't bad as long as it's the correct glass type (I.E borosiliciate). I got almost all my glassware from Aliexpress. Brands like the GG-17 and Bomex are all very capable of enduring anything you can throw at them. I used my GG-17 to distill nitric acid and boiled sulfuric acid to concentrate/purify many times and it went through it like no one's business. This is why I feel bad that I lost my GG-17 due to a silly breakage when drying, so I am ordering another one from Chengdu glassware, which I believe also produces stuff for GG-17. (The seller that sold the GG-17 stuff I got on Aliexpress apparently closed down).

StonyLab is a very good brand. I got my joints from them for distillation. Their boiling flasks should also be of top quality as well. Laboy is another brand that's available from amazon that you can trust.

As long as the seller you are buying from specializes in lab glass, you shouldn't have much to worry about.

chemland is cool if you're in Europe. https://sklep-chemland.pl/en/

some times even cheaper than chinese stuff.

chemland looks great karolus. I have only good things to say about laboyglass if I need quality, but for RBF's and stuff like that deschem is perfect.

Can confirm, I switched from 29/32 to 24/40 thanks to deschem's prizes.

@mathias94, haha, our world, or rather our specific "chemosphere" is so small!
I ran across draculic acid69 on bluelight, where I just recently made an account, its always a pleasure to meet some others of the swarm elsewhere :)

*bzzz* :)

@karlosĀ³ Absolutely, nice to stumble upon a familiar name :) Thanks for all help so far *bzzz bzz* :)

Chemland stuff is good, and some of them are much cheaper than Chinese vendors.

Deschem has been my go to supplier, and their stuff has been to my satisfaction.

deschem +1

If you want custom stuff there is a thread floating around from a board member.

amazon has some stuff at good prices, including deschem stuff.

Chinese products can be very good. Or shitty. Keep in mind, that most US companies (but not all) import their glassware from China or India and simply rebrand it. In the USA, offshoring has become very popular in the last 20 years.

I've bought glassware from karter scientific before, and have been happy with it. They have 2 quality levels, the "corning pyrex" costs more but is higher quality. The cost is quite low if you purchase sets of 5 or 6 beakers / flasks.

Would not recommend StonyLab, its the same quality glass as Deschem for twice the price.

One thing I can say about them that is excellent is that my local Amazon Prime joint has him so I can get anything from them literally the next day. Rescued me in a few situations.
