Cesium chloride wanted!

bariumbromate - 8-9-2025 at 23:57

hi i've been making some alkali metals and i need some cesium chloride for a low cost. could you guys point me in the right direction for about 100g?
or do any of you have some i could buy?

also does this glass look effective for making cesium with calcium metal, or will i have to make a steel alkali still?

thanks

the glass is boro vacuum rated.

Nah man I would recommend a completely sealed vessle atleast for Cs and Rb.

Radiums Lab - 9-9-2025 at 00:13

An youtuber Advanced Tinkering distilled Cs many times, go check him out. Use Li for better yeilds.

Ill shoot you a DM

Radiums Lab - 9-9-2025 at 00:19

I brought High quality CsCl from @Texium for 120 dollars excluding shipping 500 grams.

MrDoctor - 9-9-2025 at 00:29

oh dang for real? mine is ajax but i probs would ask for more than that, you should hit texium up XD

bariumbromate - 9-9-2025 at 01:26

it is completely sealed and i'll flush with argon
i don't want lithium because it is at least 10 times more expensive than calcium here.

bariumbromate - 9-9-2025 at 03:49

and also lithium eats glass

Radiums Lab - 9-9-2025 at 06:07

But youll loose most of your expensive Cs if you use Ca.

Radiums Lab - 9-9-2025 at 06:12

Including shipping and customs got it for around 210 dollars. It was from carus. He has Merck too.

@bariumbromate wait a second are you literally using glass as an reaction vessel?
If you are doing so then you will loose everything including your glass apparatus, glass will melt at the temperatures where Cs will start coming off, use a stainless steel reaction vessel instead.
Sorry for multiple posts but I have no other option.
By the way what is your budget.

Yeah, I know it’s worth a lot more, but I got like 10 kg for free and it’s pretty niche appeal, so I priced it to sell. And yet, I still occasionally get lowball offers asking me to sell it for even less. I also have several kilos of cesium iodide that I sell for less than the chloride (since it’s lower % cesium by mass) and a decent amount of cesium bromide.

Radiums Lab - 9-9-2025 at 09:05

What 10Kg of just chloride that too for free, ahh I should have asked you a few grams extra.

bariumbromate - 9-9-2025 at 19:24

okay i'll just use a steel one

but this guy used glass to distill cesium but i suppose it would be higher for the synthesis

Chapter 5 of Lerner is about production of metallic cesium by reduction of CsCl with calcium metal at reduced pressure. A quartz tube is used.

In that video he distilled(purified) Cs he didn't make it in that video, when you are using glass to perform the reaction, the CsCl should melt to react with Ca or Li whatever.
It's Mp is somewhere around 800-850. At those temperatures you would find a puddle of glass.

As bnull stated you can use quartz too( if you can get it)
Once you have impure Cs metal you can distill it in glass itself,
I recommend you to watch other clips of Advance Tinkering before attempting this.
Cs boiling point is somewhere around 400C. Glass is ok with this.

See this thread too: https://www.sciencemadness.org/whisper/viewthread.php?tid=69...

Dan Vizine had the process all figured out in 2011.

I had posted I. The reagents acquisition, last chemical order thread looking for Cs a while back. Just noticed Textiums sale thread about a week ago. I am interested in one kilo of the iodide for the same purposes. Although less directly useful for that, it seems a lot better than only getting a few grams of something else from different sellers off eBay and such.

Still working on getting my argon tank full though and have not welded any stainless apparatus yet. I guess there are perks to selling stainless steel exhaust, and having access to all the dinged up returns. :)

Texium - 10-9-2025 at 07:55

Shoot me a U2U and we can discuss the CsI! Be sure to check out my spreadsheets too as I have a lot of other good deals in there.
