Gun powder testing

SherlockHolmes - 3-8-2012 at 13:38

Recently I did some detonation tests of smokeless gun powder containing 90% pyroxylin 9% RDX/DEGDN and 1% titanium powder for easier ignition. The composition detonate with 0.15g. lead azide. I pressed into 3 mm cardboard tubes. Hand pressing was not very effective, with cool hitting and pushing managed to achieve 0.6-7 density. With the syringe managed to achieve about 0.9 density. With a rubber mallet and hitting might achieve 1.6 density says one colleague.

Here are my tests:

And now pressed into a syringe:

Can be used as a secondary explosive detonators in a blasting caps. Instead of 1 g. RDX may be placed 3 g. smokeless powder. I did this test with the initiation of nitroglycerin that he wants a serious initial explosion to reach speeds of detonation and it worked.

With low density comes poor brisanse. Try adding liquid energetic to your composition, it will certainly improve brisance. With a charge with flat bottom towards the target, you'll be able to penetrate quite thicker steel. Even ap can do something that way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfSVWLjNICI

Basically I wanted to show the power of clean, smokeless powder and not I add other things to it, another nitrate compound would change the explosive properties of gunpowder else it is also a good option to achieve the high density (cool)! Nitrocellulose was it dissolves all alcohols? This would have resulted from some kind of gelatin dynamite, which will definitely give more effective results than conventional nitrocellulose gunpowder :). Smokeless as seen in pure form no brisance. Whatever the mix to make it would not have been very powerful brisance explosives, but as I said in the absence of reagents as erythron, pentaerythritol, concentrated nitric acid for synthesis of other elite secondary explosives for the blasting caps is not a bad choice as long product is prepared correctly ;)

More intelligent then ap anyways (my so far three months old ap sitting in a sealed bottle is just fine. No gases given off whatsoever. It even doesn't smell much) I guess you can make cute an/un boosters if you can compress well. Maybe really rational choice for initiating un.

Did you buy the gun powder ?

From the weapon stores ;)
