If I don't find someway to take advantage of this, you will all hear faint but definite screaming from the north, it will encircle the globe three times before becoming too faint for human ears.

I shit you not.

Edit: Title changed to something more appropiate. 'Sweet fuckin Jesus' won't do!

Mercury [7439-97-6], Technical, 1 lb

$75.00 Reg.
$25.00 SALE

SOLD!

Polverone - 16-8-2004 at 20:34

A lot of materials are on sale now, but not everything. I have already taken advantage of sale prices on various items...

Mercury was at one time much cheaper, though. I think they were selling it for less than $20 per pound, a year or so ago. I have taken advantage of sale prices on a number of items. Some of the items are sold out but displayed anyhow. I grabbed the last of the phenylhydrazine hydrochlorde!

When I first saw that it was for sale, I emailed them and asked about it. The owner mailed me back and said that he would continue to run it until a suitable buyer is found, so it's not going to just disappear.

Hey thanks for the tipoff on this sale!
Whew I ordered so much useless stuff.
What the hell am I gonna do with Selenium anyway.

JohnWW - 17-8-2004 at 03:10

Selenium is an essential trace element, probably the strongest anti-oxidant known, and it also "economizes" the use of vitamins A and E in the body. Taken as either seleno-methionine (in which the S in the amino-acid is replaced with Se), or as a solution of sodium selenite in drops, at least 100 micrograms per day is recommended, and up to 1000 micrograms per day in cases of severe selenium deficiency (which results in heart muscle degeneration, among other things).

Se is also easily reduced to H2Se, which is an even more potent poison gas than H2S, with an even stronger smell. Unlike S, the (VI) state is fairly strongly oxidizing.

Everything that I want is already sold out....

BromicAcid - 17-8-2004 at 03:18

When they first started selling off things awhile ago they had 100 g of hydrazine sulfate for $5 which I didn't take advantage of till it was too late. And now they are sold out of sodium bismuthate, 100g for $12.50 was just too good of a price :(

As has been mentioned before in other threads, it looks like it is finally going away. The site has been unchanged for this year, so it looks like the message on the home page is wishful thinking and the message on the about us page is the real one. Its sad. Although some said they had high prices, some things were very reasonable. They had some neat stuff. Go to Fisher to see what high prices really are, albeit of perhaps higher grade material.

So go give back their good karma on what is left of their stock.

evil_lurker - 27-6-2006 at 17:17

Yeah the owners wife passed away in January from cancer and he decided to hang up the biz. I don't know if they are even taking orders as of now.

It would be pretty silly of me to have made the above post, and this one, if they weren't. As I said, nothing has yet changed, which is disappointing given the message on the home page. Most of us are familiar with the net being strewn with home page promises, followed by "last update: 08/09/98".
