Cooling bath at -10*C

I need to make a cooling bath w/ about 1L of this cold liquid which will be cooled by use of the freezer overnight day before it is needed. Basically I need something that will not freeze at temps around -12*C, I could easily get approx. a Liter of it, and I can safely have it in a freezer with other food albeit covered if needed, but also using a kitchen glass beaker to contain this. My first thought was just a half and half antifreeze/water, but I don't want to go to those lengths just yet, antifreeze is nasty. Is there any cheap and readily available source for Propylene Glycol?

Otherwise I will stick to the -2*C or whatever I can get w/ salt and ice!

Well actually sodium chloride in water solutions can effectively be cooled to around -17 C without freezing. Another solution would be a calcium chloride solution which freezes at much lower temperatures yet.

How about salt and ice? It forms a eutectic at -10 C, which makes it handy for deicing roads.

Propylene glycol is available as an animal feed supplement at Tractor Supply Co, at least in the US. But there are other options. Vodka, windshield washer fluid, isopropyl alcohol, various sorts of brine as already suggested, acetone, 10% ammonia solution...

Fairly Dilute HCl(aq) can get very cold. IIRC, member peach posted a list of various cooling baths that was very informative.

A frigorific mixture of ice and ammonium chloride will get you 0 F. IIRC, this is actually how the zero point of the fahrenheit scale was determined.
