Singlet oxygen/iodine lasers

How practical/possible would it be to built a COIL oxygen/iodine laser do you think?

Here is a link as to how they work.

I was thinking, a small man portable unit could be produced, and powered with pre-loaded chemical cells to power the device.

I think someone highly skilled at building IR lasers would stand a decent chance of building the older type of COIL in which the energy transfer system is optical. This could be preceded by the use of an alternative light source until the thing works and adding more iodine for a full chemical run. I suspect even for a small one buying hydrogen peroxide in drums would be essential.

For someone with no experience in making IR lasers, I put the chances at slim to nil for going directly to the COIL design and zero for an attempted supersonic direct iodine injection device as described in the article.

I also expect the needed dichroic mirrors will be very expensive.
