I am trying to crudely observe optical rotation by using light from an lcd monitor and some salvaged polarizing film. Whatever i put in my vial
between the monitor and film doesn't change the darkest rotational point at all. Unfortunately i don't have glucose. Piracetam 1g/ml in water should
make some effect? I have tried a bunch of different supplement powders and stuff i have around in water and methanol and nothing changes the rotation
at all.
Am i missing something fundamental here? Or do the laws of physics not apply to my universe.

Any chance of providing a schematic of your set up?

Sucrose (table sugar) will work as well. Piracetam will not work if it is racemic.

Pick up some cream of tartar at the grocery store.
Tartaric acid is chiral.
