i could be wrong but from the looks of that name its going to conatain an amide and an alcohol group.
something like this:
CH3CONHOH???

madscientist - 19-12-2002 at 16:16

Kingspaz: that would be an oxime (if you're thinking of the --NHOH group).

If you search for alkanolamide you'll get more hits than if you leave the "mono" on the front. The compounds seem to be used as cleaning and foaming agents. Unfortunately, the one Chemfinder hit I found
http://chemfinder.cambridgesoft.com/result.asp?molid=8048-12... doesn't have a molecular diagram or even a formula.

thanks Polverone!

chemfinder loves you much more than me. This is a point for further investigations to start, I found only to the use as surfactant and period - dead end street.

I will report what comes up, may it be for amusement or for education ;)

Just by name alone I think it may look like this, sort of what I read in Morrison and Boyd

.........error no edit capabilities, Hugh!

I can't seem to get it to post the drawing right but the double bond with oxygen is over the carbon next to the amine and the hydroxyl should be on the last carbon of the alkane,........

Note: there is a need to be able to edit posts and also so the post is not justified hence won't move the symbols on drawings, as it happened on the last two previous posts......just an opinion (solo)

madscientist - 25-12-2002 at 22:14

A few months back, ability to edit posts mysteriously ended - apparently something went screwy with the board software. We don't know how to fix it, and we've changed software too many times already. :( So for the time being, all I can say is: preview your post before posting it. :) Sorry for the inconvenience.

Since we've been using the XMB software, edit capabilities have always been broken. I've read the XMB development forums and there's a pretty easy way to fix it so that posts can be edited... But then any user can edit any other user's post! The real solution is to upgrade to a more recent version of XMB, but I absolutely hate hate HATE computer troubleshooting, so I'd probably just have to hang myself if the upgrade screwed up. Anybody out there want to take this task off my hands? You'll need at least minimal knowledge of PHP, MySQL, SSH, and Linux.
