Norite-how to work

whupharm_xu - 9-5-2005 at 06:28

anybody knows about norite?
an experimental process is as follows:the crude product(brick-orange) was dissolved in boiling methanol, stirred with a small amount of Norite, and filtered while hot, evaporation of the filtrate afforde an orange powder.
here i think Norite is used as a decoloring agent, but the mechanism about it is ambiguous to me, is it just like that of active carbon?if so, why not use active carbon,it is readily available.
who ever used it?i am expecting for your reply posts!
(i searched from the internet and found it was a certain rock):D

Do you mean Norit? That's just a brand name of activated carbon isn't it?

is it really a kind of activated carbon?
then, what is different from the general activated carbon we use?

the point is that the general activated carbon is not useful for decoloring in my experiment,so i think Norite may be certain special decoloring agent.
