Short Time Distillation

kamal - 13-10-2005 at 05:40

Hello friends !

I want to distill my aliphatic Isocyanate & I have been suggested to distill it with "SHORT TIME DISTILLATION" Method. But I'm not familiar at all with this procedure.

Can anyone pls suggest me some reference for lab & plant scale method for this ?

Pls note, it is NOT the "SHORT PATH DISTILLATION".

Awaiting your replies !

Thanx,
KAMAL

This sounds like getting something for nothing. Tell us more about it, or where you heard about it. ;)

Any chance someone is pulling your leg?

Either that, or...
It was mentioned once in 'stilling circles (aah, here he goes again!) that a 'short run' or 'short time' distillation refers to the method of performing a careless "stripping run" [id est with a pot still] and then a reflux distillation. It saves time, energy and coolant.
Perhaps all that is meant is that you should not care about delicacy, if that's the right word.

Other than that it's an enigma

Could mean at reduced presure?? No other way to make it faster.

Who suggested it in the first place? can you ask them what it means?

Well if your impurity is very high boiling, even under vacuum or it is something that impairs a nasty color, a fast and quick distillation will get rid of it, ofcourse.

This is not recommended for sensitive organics ofcourse.
