I saw a method for making a complex of SO3 in DMF. The main idea of this method was : to put oleum vapours in contact with DMF cooled in an ice bath
with continuous stirring. It takes a while to get this complex at a decent concentration and it's a big waste of oleum. So my question is, is there
any reason why they don't do simply this reaction with DMF+ Na2SO3???
p.s they wanna keep the DMF anhydre and they wanna make this SO3 reacts with an ester group to form R-COOSO3 Sorry for my bad english

Na2SO3 is very different from SO3. SO3 is the anhydride of sulfuric acid, while Na2SO3 is the sodium salt of sulfurous acid. You cannot substitute
Na2SO3 and get the same results.
