Desiccated Chemical Storage

relatively unknown - 2-5-2015 at 15:06

Is storing chemicals under inert gas (nitrogen) better than storing under desiccant (silica gel)? Why? Thank you.

That depends on a lot of factors, such as what the chemical is, what type of container is being used, and how often said container is being opened to access the chemical. Some more details would be useful in providing a helpful and accurate answer.

Generally things are kept under nitrogen if they are prone to reactions with oxygen or carbon dioxide in the air. Desiccants are used to scavenge moisture from things that are water sensitive or hygroscopic etc. Depends on the context though, provide more details
