can i use peroxydisulphuric acid for making acetone peroxide?

idrbur - 8-7-2015 at 05:11

I want to make acetone peroxide from h2s2o8 which gives h2o2 and disulphuric acid on hydrolysis. So is it possible to make acetone peroxide by pouring acetone in the solution of h2o2 and h2s2o7.

Dont mix peroxides with mineral acids/dehydrating agent.Never! And why TATP aka the satans morthers sheeeeeet. But you will know it later.Makes huge crystals even after recrystalisation. And a slight touch and it explodes.
Don't learn it in the hard way.

TCAP is often made using sulfuric acid, but the reaction must be kept very cold for the trimer to form, and the heat produced when adding conc. sulfuric acid to the hydrogen peroxide solutions is a common problem. This can cause the hydrogen peroxide to decompose to a useless concentration, or heat the reactants past the point where the desired oligomer can form.

I don't really see any reason some TCAP would not be produced in your proposed scheme though. Just keep everything very cold and very small scale. Just a single drop of acetone will yield enough to satisfy your curiosity. Keep in mind that the compound you are attempting to make is a very sensitive explosive that has been responsible for countless accidents and injuries, and is of very limited use other than making loud bangs and maiming reckless youths and kewls.

I'm not familiar with anyone having used peroxydisulfuric acid for this, so why not do some very small scale tests (test tube sized and a drop of acetone) and report your results back here?

No, you don't.

You'll die if you do.

Without proper cooling and dillution I have the feeling this will explode. Peroxydisulfuric acid is a solid if I recall correctly, essentially the anhydride of Piranha Solution which is known for detonating in contact with things like say... acetone.

Once again, an enquiry about a dangerous explosive. Some of the guys get pissed when dope questions are asked. I don't. Explosives alarm me.

Me too. Please stop spoonfeeding this guy. He is going to kill himself....................

.......................Or, possibly others. Lots of others.

Lel I am 14 years old and dont asking seriusly dumb questions.

It was not meant to be an issue of age meaning stupid but rather "an inability to realize the effects of the now oo the distant future." If you lose an arm now it does not grow back when your 40 and telling your son how you lost it. It does not grow back in time for your first date and your criminal record will haunt you forever.

The issue with age isnt one of knowledge but rather one of wisdom. Knowing how relationships of all types, not just between people but events, effect your future. Its great to be interested in chemistry but bad to lose an arm at 15 and not understand the repercussions of these actions. I fear for their future not their minds.

From memory on the msds of Ammonium persulfate (peroxodisulfate) is not compatible with aceton...
I suspect it is from the transcient formation of CTAP.

At a hair product factory I was working in, we had a detonation of (NH4)2S2O8 with some waxy material in an automatic filler of the dry powder used as hair bleaching once added to water by professionnal hairdressers/barbers... but this is another story.

To put it bluntly, I hope this is an entirely theoretical question....
Not even suicide bombers are willing to use TATP because it's prone to exploding before they can even reach where they want to blow themselves up.

I'm an idiot and I love exploding things I wouldn't touch 0.1 grams of an organic peroxide with a ten foot pole.

Never ever.

kecskesajt - 31-7-2015 at 20:34

Yes never more.Scary shit. That moment when you find 1-1.5 cm crystals and you are like:WTF
You can do anything, only get a big bow of NaOH solution under it and with a huge stick, push it to the basic solution with praying to god,pls no explode TATP.After it got it wet,you are good to go.

Guy was storing 4-5 gramms of TATP in a jar.He was screwing down and then suddenly.
