Impact pendulum for energetic materials

aldofad - 5-9-2015 at 15:10

Hello world,
here is my latest machined development dedicated to energetic materials, an impact pendulum for precision testing.

Please watch the video to have an idea,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsnyx8waII8
I performed some testing on the video over Lead Styphnate, Lead Azide and PETN

It could be useful to test energetics before handling, immediately after preparation or after a long store time.

Let me know yuor opinions!

Cheers,
aldo

Great device,must show to explosions&fire!
Hopefully, you are not testing lead azide and styphnate inside the house.

Explosions&Fire has seen his video with jealously. Very well built sir. The electronic spirit level definitely makes the pendulum design much better. What's the mass of the hammer head?

The mass of the hammer head is 6 Kg, plus the mass of the bar. The heavy weight permits a very low relative contribution of mechanical attritions.
Thanks for watching the video and for comments.
The pendulum gives me much a sense of safety, because now it costs nothing to rapidly test a batch before handling.

I'm now looking to develop a device to test energetics over temperature, so stay tuned :)

Cheers

nice walnut cracker aldofad;) jokes aside, are you able to calculate the energy exerted into psi or something? or are you just referencing the degree of swing purely based on your impact pendulum design?

How about one of these next?
