Buying a real fume hood!!

DoctorOfPhilosophy - 19-5-2016 at 18:01

Check out this fume hood I'm getting! It's 3500 CAD (2673 USD) with the storage cabinet, piping, blower, and rain cap. I might have to pay for a crane to remove equipment from the roof though. The other two are for sale too, and this abandoned factory is selling off a crapload of really expensive looking equipment for cheap. If anyone's interested I can hook you up with stuff like:

Fume hoods
Vacuum system, diffusion pump
LN2 Dewer
Glassware
Gas chromatography ovens
Rotary evaporators
Eye wash stations
Transformers
Vacuum pumps
Image magnifier
Microbalances
Caesium 137
Last one was a joke :P

Out of curiosity, how much are the rotovaps going for, and will they ship to the US? I've been trying to find a good one for a while.

DoctorOfPhilosophy - 20-5-2016 at 08:50

I'll probably be there on Tuesday to pickup the fume hood, so I'll check out the rotovaps. I recall some parts were missing but the condenser and mechanical parts are there.

I would love a fume hood, but what would shipping be to the Eastern Coast of the USA?

DoctorOfPhilosophy - 21-5-2016 at 10:29

Might be cheaper to buy it there, I've seen some on ebay in Pennsylvania for a similar price

Edit: from 400 to 1000 depending on where on the east coast you are. If you're seriously interested, send me PM

Check this out! Couldn't sleep all night 'cause I was so excited! The rotovaps are CAD$200 btw. We got one that was in good condition.

The hood looks good but it's huge. How do you get it through the door? Can it be disassembled into smaller pieces?

DoctorOfPhilosophy - 31-5-2016 at 07:58

Yes, luckily it can be taken apart down to the tiniest bolt. Our building doesn't have elevators and the stairway is narrow so we took off the countertop, metal panels, sash, and counterweight and carried the rest upstairs with 5 people!

Wow ! You carried the fume hood AND 5 people at the same time ?

A testament to the raw strength of an amateur Chemist and the people-carrying capacity of that fume hood.

Haha your signature says it all.

But yes, we use it to detain club members who don't wear their PPE. It can handle up to 5 delinquents at a time.
