I have been building out my lab. Have my benches built, working on my fume hood. But summer heat has put a stop for the moment. I'm building my lab in
my garage not ideal I know but once I get walls built around the lab area I can get a/c installed. Think building in a building and you can invision
my setup.
My question: I bought the chemical kit to work through Thompson's Illustrations Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments from Elemental Scientific. What
chemicals in this kit will be harmed by the heat? It's been reaching 97 degree F, in the last few days.

The only things that jump out at me are ammonia, chloroform and possibly formaldehyde. Those items I store inside the house. I chill the ammonia
before use. My garage gets hellishly hot throughout much of the year = no garage chemistry except around winter.
You'll enjoy working through the procedures in that book and having the reagents on hand will save you a lot of time.

I store several things in the freezer... gallium, iodine, dichloromethane, ether etc

I had some lovely crystals of hydrated copper(II) nitrate once...they turned into a solution on a hot day, and never solidified.

My shed feels like it hots hot(ish), but is mainly shaded by the house. inside shed is a small old fridge (not plugged in), i put most solvents in
there. A min/max thermometer helps to know what temps you have hit, so far in the fridge its not gone over 11C, i also have a small bucket of cold
water in the fridge and my 30-60C pet ether bottle sits in the bucket with the lid on.
I change the water every few days (when i remember) the tap water comes out around 3-5C so it takes ages for the bucket to heat up much anyway and
help keep the fridge cool. So far average temp in the fridge is only around 5-7C most of the time, but having the shed shaded helps, plus in the UK
temps above 30c are not that common so i doubt for most things its an issue.
I would like a small freezer but no room and not needed for the stuff i do.
