how can I take aluminum formate and make it to aluminum hydride maybe some how decarboxylation the aluminium formate
some how to get hydrogen to attach to aluminium please help

It is usually made by reacting lithium aluminum hydride with a strong Lewis acid in anhydrous conditions, usually in ether, to remove the lithium. Sulfuric acid can be used as the acid, as can some other substances, but usually they use aluminum chloride.

I'm not really sure what the reaction between LiAlH4 and aluminum formate would be...

Alane isn't an easy make. Only a few ways to produce it, and once you have it, it displays solubility/stability problems.

Seems like I remember something about synthesis via Protons.

You, ahhh, have a nifty source of un-encumbered Protons?

You're thinking of the reaction Al(HCO2)3 --> AlH3 + 3 CO2? I don't have any citations to back this up, but I'd say that reaction doesn't have a chance of happening.

Magnesium aluminide is more of an alloy than an ionic salt, so reaction with acid will must likely give off H2.

I'm going to guess from your post history you want make an aldehyde, starting with the carboxylic acid?
