Clemmensen reduction

I have a doubt on the Clemmensen reduction with Zn-Hg/HCl. Does it also reduce a halogen in alpha position? will the hydrolisis take place with the H2O? I have read the reduction at some time it is also wook to reduce halogens.

Affirmative, it also reduces them.

you should look into ni/al alloy (not raney nickel, an alloy). not sure if they reduce halogens, but they reduce =O functionality to methylene compounds with ease
