A great write up, really instructive. Planning to have a go soon myself, to obtain some acid chloride's. Can you recommend a light source to initiate the reaction? Would an array of UV LED's be sufficient, or does this require a high voltage metal vapour lamp or similar?

I am looking to try this too, but I am unsure if I have the equipment. I have a 25w 254nm lamp, and it seems that it might be too low power, as it required 7 hours with a 1kw lamp. Has anyone had success with photo chlorinations with a low power bulb?

I looked for a more powerful lamp, but the only thing I found was reptile lamps, would it be worth it to buy a 100w reptile lamp?
