FTP Downtime

The FTP will be down the next couple of days for maintenance. This includes careful
inspection of data for duplicate removal. So far 12 GB of duplicate data has been
removed. The software checking for duplicates does a byte by byte comparison on
files of equal size.

5th Time Tonight !

I've lost power due to storms - rare for this part of the Eastern United States, especially
at this time of the year. I don't know the cause but one thing is for sure - the UPS
is failing. I need a new unit ! My system totally blacked-out during the process.
My deepest apologiies for the inconveniences. Obviously, after 5 years, this unit needs
to be replaced. Again, my sincerest of apologies ! I'll address the UPS replacement
as soon as it's economy feasible.

FTP Interruption

There was a power outage at 6:57(EST) this morning. My apologies for any
inconveniences this caused. What do I want from Santa for Christmas ? A new UPS.

FTP Donwtime

The FTP was down for several hours until this morning due to a loss of internet service
caused by recent snowstorms. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Just A Heads Up

We're expecting a shitstorm in the Mid-Atlantic area tonight into tomorrow. Standard mix of
freezing rain, sleet, and snow. It's possible this could interfere with my internet service and
subsequently the ftp. Just wanted to warn everybody.

MadHatter I noticed that you saying that you have to check for dupes on the ftp server. If the server is running *nix there is a tool called fdupes which makes short work of locating and if you want removing duplicate files.

fdupes -rdN /path/to/folder/here/

That one line will md5 all pictures in all sub folders and remove the duplicates.

CPU Fan Croaked

The FTP will be down until I can get a replacement CPU fan for the eMachine that
drives the server. Unfortunately, they're not available over the counter so it will
have to be ordered. I'll keep you posted.

Bad week - 2 microwave ovens, cpu fan, 1 UPS all croaked !

I'll see if I can run the FTP from the other computer but the userid/password has not been
updated.

We can provide alternative hosting for the FTP so the load can be spread out between several server locations to increase reliability

And I can provide a fast FTP for you to upload the public files if you wish to distribute them to a few other members. I can't run it full time as it's one of those "unlimited" services. (as long as you don't use it more than they think you should)

FTP Back Up

There was a glitch with the firewall settings but the FTP is back up running on
the older computer. I've ordered the new cpu cooling fan for the other computer.
Another problem cropped up last night - power outage due to thunderstorms.
A real pain in the ass and it happened twice ! This is one of those problems I
have no control over - sorry !

FTP Back On Newer Computer

The new CPU fan has been installed and the server is back on the eMachine. Pain in
the ass, I know, but at least the last fan lasted 2 years.

Thanks for your patience !

That's possible, but clearly it's more likely that most of the glitches are because Comcast is throttling the bandwidth used

FTP Outage

It happened earlier this evening due to thunderstorms and I wasn't at home. Expect
problems the next several days. I'll keep you posted.

Power Wink

Happened a couple hours ago. Sorry for the disruption. It's amazing it didn't happen
more often. We've been hammered by thunderstorms quite frequently for a while now.
At least, here in Maryland, we haven't had the devastating tornadoes that have claimed
many lives further south.

Thunderstorms

Last night, June 9, a vicious thunderstorm knocked out the power for hours after a record breaking
103 F was reached during the day. Subsequently, the FTP was down for several hours. My apologies to all.

While I was out a thunderstorm interrupted the power and the computer shutdown.
Hopefully, no more electrical activity tonight.

You need to get a lightening conductor on that FTP.
They work wonders for tall buildings you know.

Hurricane Irene

The FTP is still down as of this message. It took 2 days to get the power restored. Comcast
is still working on the cable/internet connection. The storm trashed the East coast from North
Carolina to New England. I'm posting from work and will post again when service is restored.

Service restored as of 7:25 PM EDT. :D

Keeping My Fingers Crossed

So far, the internet connection has stayed up all day but that may not hold. Tropical storm Lee
is due to hit the gulf coast states on Sunday with a northeast trajectory inland. Don't know if
it will affect us. Hurricane Katia is still some distance off in the Atlantic but the bitch could
swing north and cause severe problems just like Irene did.

I can log in, but I get the following error message:

Command: USER BOLT
Response: 331 Password required for bolt
Command: PASS ********
Response: 421 Too many users logged in for this account. Try again later.
Error: Could not connect to server

Of course, I am the only one who has this account info (as far as I know). Any suggestions?
