L-Carnitine -> Acylcarnitine?

I was wondering if anyone knew a rxn that could be done at home, with semi-available reagents. I am interested in Acylcarnitine because of how it increases mucous membrane absorption. I was hoping to be able to use vinegar (pretty easy to get).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Vinegar isn't going to work I do not think. I suspect that you are going to need an acylating agent, such as acetic anhydride -- this isn't exactly easy to get or make.

Thank you. Yeah, I don't really want the DEA knocking at my door. :P
