Magnesium tetroxide

Hi guys, I'm sure this kind of stupid post does NOT belong to this kind of so serious forum but it's a good joke.

Yesterday I went to the supermarket and see a new Axe Shower Gel bottle.

So what's wrong you'll say ? Just watch what's written on it : "With Stimulating MgO2".

So fear the power of Axe who has find the Mg4+ ion ! Funny huh ? ^^

Maybe be it's Mg Superoxide, like NaO2

wow I've just done a quick Internet search and they may not be wrong :o I though that was a stupid mistake like many others but there are several site referencing magnesium peroxide, MgO2, as a healthy product :o

But I must say on other sites they tell it's a dangerous nasty product which is both irritating and flammable... There were some medicine using magnesium peroxide but they are all forbidden now (as I see). MgO2 is also listed on dangerous explosive lists...

so the question remains : is Axe stupid or are they just dangerous ? :)

I understand now why they say it's a revitalyszing formula, it has good "explosive" effects on your body :)

I should buy a bottle and see if a few quantity of it explode by flame or impact lol. Hang on, a new explosive made of Axe Shower Gel is coming :P

Perhaps this solves the mystery of what causes spontaneous human combustion.;)

tetroxide is NOT tetrAoxide

I remember Pb3O4 to be called lead tetroxide there's no oxidation number of 2.<span style="text-decoration: overline">6</span> for lead!:D it contains a 2 : 1 ratio of Pb(II) and Pb(VI).

in case of Mg there's only one unique oxidation number maybe it's a mix of the oxide and peroxide.

btw you seem not to know much about the basic principles of energetic materials. MgO2 is obviously an oxidizer and doesn't burn itself but enhances the ignition of fuels when mixed with them it may also REACT with the fuel and the relized heat cause spontaneous ignition/explosion

I know the basics of combustion, I only write what I see on other sites.

I don't think you always need to have a combustion to produce energy. Think about NaN3 or NI3/NCl3 there is no combustion but they explode violently

true. indeed some inorganic peroxides are energetic on their own (Ag2O2?)

Anyhow, in this case, the human body provides quite a large amount of fuel!:D
