N-acetyl ortho-toluidine to n-acetylanathranilic acid plus o-toluidine

Text
I have been synthesizing n-acetylanathranilic acid from n-acetyl ortho toluidine. It comes out find as far as im guessing by following cheapskates guide to methaqualone. My problem is in the final synthesizing stage of methaqualone. I add 1:1 n-acetylanathranilic acid and o-toluidine. I then cook it off in a large test tube in a oil at approx 190 c°. It says to cook off for about three hours but it always evaporates off completely and never turns the dark purple almost black color instead i only can get it to a slurry of purplr greyish color mess. Do i need to add dilute HCl when beginibg to cook or do i need to usae a pressure cooker? Help me please...
