Not so secret Santa thing

Folks,

I want to thank everyone here as well as try to just be nice to people.

I have a few boxes of stuff to give away. The categories are below.

If you are interested, please post your screen name, which category you would be interested and shat state you are in. I will prioritize by your time on SciMadness, your niceness to others, location (if shipping costs vary wildly, US locations are best), and random factors based on my mood. In a couple of weeks or so I will post who wins, and you will need to u2u me your name and address. Employees of SciMad (mods, admins, etc) are welcome to apply.

1) Volumetric flasks
2) Bottles and vials
3) old and odd chemistry glassware (retorts, etc)
4) TLC and chromatography
5) Pipets and similar stuff

Wow. How nice.
I need some volumetric flasks but I intend to order these. Shipping from the US is prohibative.

OTOH, some items from category 4 might pack flat and mail easily -- if you consider me with the mailable zone.

I'll have to see what the prices are now, I used to ship there often, but then the rates doubled a few times. TLC plates might work, but no chamber or larger items would be practical. Main issue is if they break them all in the shipping. But I will look at the rates.

Folks,

I have just shipped out a bunch of boxes with a few left to finish. Everybody should get something, there are several boxes of bottles and vials, and a few mixed boxes of Chrom supplies, bottles, and random odd stuff. I have lost my box of old flasks somewhere, and despite looking for days, haven't found it yet in the pile, so that will have to wait until another day, just a bit messy here, so not always easy to find things. But I hope that the packages make it in time, I am running a little late. For the Chomr packages, the plastic cartriges are packed with flash silica gel, you can either open them to use it elsewhere (especially the orange capped plastic tubes), or try to run them with a syringe and/or a stopper and tubing. I have seen some very creative ways to do it, using gravity (bottle way up with plastic tubing to create a siphon, small pump, syringe, etc. If you don't know what something is, just ask, I did the best I could to fit things in, I bet Amazon does not use vials as packing materials.

And I have not yet been able to figure out a good affordable way to ship anything useful to Australia yet, the cost of even a small box is now about $45, and the customs wait at the post office is nuts right now. Jsum if there are any books, articles, or other items that could be scanned, emailed, or anything small and flat enough to fit in an envelope that you can use, please let me know, it pains me to leave you out, being such a great person here. I might be able to find some Al or plastic backed TLC plates that would fit into an envelope, so I am looking for those, but glass ones are way to heavy and fragile to put into a flat envelope, I tried and they just don't work well.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good day in the lab!

A very heavy box arrived today. My wife pulled it from the mailbox and immediately assumed I was up to no good. Well, in that box was a fine collection of all kinds of things. Isn't it amazing how if you think you do not need anything that you find that you needed things that you did not have? Surreal.

Well, Dr. Bob, thank you ever so much for the nice collection of sorely needed items in that box that I did not know I needed.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours,

AvB

I hope you all can find uses for many of the odd bits and pieces I threw in with the bottles, vials, and chrom supplies. Some I have more of, some are unicorns, the last of what I had, and in some cases, they be the only ones left. But if anyone is unsure, just ask here what something is. The small, empty, syringelike things are phase separators, DCM will pass through the membrane, but not water, so they can be used as a mini-sep funnel. Then there are some tiny silica gel plugs in syringe barrels. These are still used for SPE, but rarely with silica gel, mostly used for iion exchange now. But great for small samples to purify.

Wakanat, I will try to find something to ship, but can't promise deliery before Christmas. I think I am about done for this year.
