Alternative to MeCN


Hi all,
I would like to attempt this synthesis http://cssp.chemspider.com/Article.aspx?id=643 and i have everything i need apart from MeCN. In the UK it is impossible to get unless you are a business and I'm wondering if this can be substituted for another polar aprotic solvent such as ethyl acetate or if MeCN is essential.

Not using MeCN is already a different route. Just use Klute's route, it makes more sense.

Like, seriously, you distilled triethylamine over calcium hydride? Dried MgCl2 over P2O5? Probably not. And if you did, you can probably follow the acetonitrile prep here:
