Synthesis of 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzene

Hey guys. I made a video on the synthesis of 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzene. Ill appreciate any support and constructive criticism. Its the first on youtube I believe. Finally got the chance to somewhat reboot my channel with all the work-load from uni.
Here the link: https://youtu.be/97SDudHrZHg

(Hope everyone is doing fine amidst this pandemic)

This must be the most ghetto video/setup I have ever seen :) I love it.

What are you going to do with the product?

For gods sake man, buy yourself some new kit! Its cheap enough on ebay. Using broken equipment looks worse than than using jam jars and plastic pots.

Btw, how do you know it is not ortho-chloro-nitrobenzene? Or heavily contaminated?

Yes it most likely is. The best estimates can say its ~60% p-chloronitrobenzene. According to the info I read tho the para isomer is the most prevalent (63-65%). I would try to separate the isomers but it would involve vacuum distillation which I don't have equipment for.

Very nice! So your goal is to synthesize p-nitrophenol, it is easier to start from phenol instead of chlorobenzene. Steam distillation separates o and p isomers of nitrophenol (b.p. of o is 216 C, b.p. of p is 279 C)
