Got my own NMR
So I had an amazing eBay acquisition and got an 80 MHz bench top nmr. I am so excited and I just wanted to share the first crap spectrum haha.

Oh by the way it’s a Thermo Picospin 80, so it’s an 80 MHz bentchtop NMR that only does 1D proton NMR experiments.

Side note: your spectrum would look less crappy if you integrated the CH as your 1 instead of the OH

That is an amazing deal. I have a similar situation at work, where we have several NMRs and almost no one working, so no lines, queues, or waits in
most cases. But cost more than that just to keep full of cryogens.

Wow! This is THE tool a chemist needs and you've got it. Do you mind sharing how much you paid for it? You had it repaired by the manufacturer?
Do you have a youtube channel? Would love to see that baby in action.
If you want a nice compound, try piperine. It's fairly big but still easy to isolate from pepper. Of course I've never done actual purity checks of my
samples, but by MP they are supposed to be clean after a few recrystallizations

Could that possibly be used to analyze some samples
of a few unknown wax compounds?
The samples are various fragments of hard waxy
substances used many years ago for sound recording.
The ingredients of these are fairly well known, but there is
some missing data.

Got my own NMR update
Just wanted to show a new spectrum of Ibuprofen with some DCM and Acetone contamination. I am getting better at running this thing, but man am I rusty
at my interpretation. Please leave your feedback, I would love to know what everyone thinks.

things lol, my prof would have the jaw on the floor knowing an amateur has an nmr at home even if it isn't a 300MHz

The instrument is a Thermo Scientific Picospin 80. I think the resolution is pretty good considering it is the size of a microwave. However if I had
my choice of a bench top NMR to have I would go with the Nanalysis unit since it also does 2D and carbon NMR. But hey beggars can’t be choosers.

I spent about $2K to get the instrument and a bit more to get it repaired. The consumables are really just dehydrated solvents, if you wanted to use
them, and an additional “cartridge” whit is essentially a big computer chip with a flow cell. Other than that I typically use scintillation vials
to prep samples which is another consumable. It’s also a good idea to have some kind of drying agent for your samples if you are concerned about
water getting in your sample. I prefer anhydrous magnesium sulfate for a lot of my prep work if I need to dry stuff.
