Unfortunately we have to spend a lot of money on this hobby because most chemical suppliers have a stick up their ass and think sodium chloride sold
to a residential address will be used to make meth. So we have to pay for middlemen, not buying directly from the source.
If heaven exists, heaven is a place where anyone can buy 250 mL of 1-pentanol from Alfa Aeser for $27, with $10 shipping.
Feeling kind of mad at the world right now.
I heard that TCI America sells to individuals if you can provide proof of a degree in science. not sure if true, but More motivation to hurry up and
get my chemistry degree.

If "LiAbIlItY" is the concern, then why doesn't the dollar store get sued when an idiot drinks bleach and dies? Like, come on. I don't think
1-pentanol is used for the synthesis of any drugs or explosives.
Also, elemental scientific is having terrible customer service during COVID-19. RIP.

To simply answer the title, I do this, because it makes me happy. One should do whatever makes them happy, as long as it does not interfere with
others plans to do whatever makes them happy.
That is the only meaning of life make someone happy, even if it is Yourself.

I have purpose built SS boka still for EtOH. It gets 95abv in single run, but I always strip first for better kinetics. Hence I dont consider it
(brewing & stilling) chemistry per se.
Refluxing produces foreshots, heads, hearts and tails. Hearts are potable but form usually max 40% of total, and foreshots are just discarded, as is
the last glass which forms foil of fusels. The rest is usually well suited as solvent use.
