Dealing with Lye Lock (Zinc Hydroxide Solution + NaOH)?

I have an aqueous solution of zinc hydroxide and free amine that was made alkaline with NaOH. The solution turned into a yoghurt consistency (lye lock) and it is nearly impossible to extract the free amine with a non-polar solvent. Reducing the pH is not practical.

What is the best way to extract the free amine from this lye locked solution with a yoghurt consistency?

I would recommend either the addition of water and steam distillation, or adding solvent with stirring, then vacuum filtration, and repeating this with the filter cake until you have isolated the theoretically calculated amount of material.
