I've asked if there's DINP (Di-isononylphthalate) in stock, as I wish to restore some vintage shiny PVC raincoats that become brittle in places, due
to loss of the phthalate plasticizer over the years (over time, natural skin oils in contact with the PVC hasten the displacement of the phthalate
from the PVC polymeric matrix).
A thin layer of a phthalate (such as the highly PVC-compatible High Molecular Weight phthalate called DINP) is applied to the PVC surface and ample
time is allowed for for it to permeate into the PVC polymeric matrix, after which the PVC becomes soft once more. This method can be used to restore
the softness of PVC inflatables, too.
