Nitrating with AlNO3

I ve read in the first Volume of Urbanski that nitrations with easy dissociating salts like Iron,Copper,Nickl,Cobalt,Aluminium - Nitrat and Glacial Acetic Acid or Acetic Acid anhydrid works on aromatic Hydrocarbons. Has some one tried it? Does it lead only to mono nitro compounds or higher?
