Nitrating with AlNO3


I ve read in the first Volume of Urbanski that nitrations with easy dissociating salts like Iron,Copper,Nickl,Cobalt,Aluminium - Nitrat and Glacial Acetic Acid or Acetic Acid anhydrid works on aromatic Hydrocarbons. Has some one tried it? Does it lead only to mono nitro compounds or higher?

And you can always try yourself if there are specific compounds you're hoping to prepare; these are experiments that can be done on a very small scale and should present color changes and obvious changes in odor if you succeed to any degree.
