Gallium and Indium sources

Hello there,

I've decided to make a TPW cell as well as gallium/indium melting point cells.

Anyone know good sources of at least 4N Gallium/Indium?
Practically speaking they should be shipped and stored in a vacuum or inert atmosphere.
Too many are repoured into smaller packages at far too high of a temperature which irreversibly oxidizes the materials.

Napkin calculations state I would need at least 350grams per cell for about 100mm immersion, closer to 400g........

Quoting some from Asia has given me wildly varying prices (Anywhere from 50 cents to $1.2 per gram).

magnametals.co.uk seems like they have reasonable quality (not that they or I can afford actual purity checks) but price is still high.

MSE supplies and others, if they even sell to individuals, want ~$4 per gram which is untenable.

I still need to develop the cell creation process and the like but was hoping to see if anyone knows of good sources. The Gallium price hikes in recent years are really annoying.

Cells would be used as references for ongoing development of some temperature sensors & boards.

Have you checked Rotometals? It looks like about $1 per gram.

Yes, it's one of the ones I considered but even just by the images it doesn't inspire me with confidence. Seems they pour hot into those small capsules and it's more of a "Come play with funny metal" gallium sale not something for purity :)

Admittedly I don't have experience ordering from them.

I have seen Indium for purchase in Balkan region at not that high price not that long ago.

You could buy like 100g of it for not that high price.

I’m also looking for gallium and indium in the US or Europe, though purity is less of a concern and even as low as 2N should do. Does anyone have either of those they want to get rid of and sell for cheap? Keeping in mind some website sell them in the 0.6 and 0.5$/g respectively.

What website sells Gallium at $.6 a gram, and Indium at $.5? I've never seen these metals so cheap.

depending on what its for, theres other metals you can toss in to bulk it up so to speak, such as bismuth, along with the right amount of tin, and a couple other relatively non toxic metals, so not lead, mercury or cadmium. a while ago i think i found a candidate for a liquid metal bath that is molten at 70C or so and doesnt need gallium at all.

I got lucky when i bought my gallium, which was something like 200g all up, weeks before the global supply dried up.

If you want to find some though apparently theres a big ole vein of it at a zinc mine in western australia, though for whatever reasons its going to be a very long time before anything actually gets mined, so until then im sure they wont mind a rock or two going missing ;)

its fortunate that some gallium salts can extract into polar solvents, i believe, so no matter how messy things get, you can always recover it

Luciteria sells 100g of Indium for 57$, I was wrong for the gallium it’s more expensive than that.
As much as I would love grabbing some of those Australian rocks it would quite a trip

I purchased 10grams of 99.9% pure Indium recently from amazon for around 20 dollars in India. I know its a loss but couldn't find a cheaper alternative. I know that it's cheaper in luceteria but shipping is 2x the cost.
I can buy imported Luceteria's Gallium for 60 dollars(50gm) from amazon.

Water is dangerous if you don't know how to handle it, elemental fluorine (F₂) on the other hand is pretty tame if you know what you are doing.
