brain functions

hi everyone, i'm a new member here.

I'm wondering if anybody has a website that describes binding of receptors in the brain, other chemical processes (good, neutral or bad) in the brain, and perhaps some MRI or other scans of the brain with certain disorders/hypothesis of mechanisms of action in the brain. i already have www.Brainplace.com but i like to keep my resources wide. That site seems to promote all themedicine it has "tested" and i think it has totally left out the bad side-effects associated with some of those perscriptions.

Well this is what googling 'brain chemistry':

most detailed on neurotransmitters etc

I admit there isn't that much detailed biochemical information, but there are a number of sublinks that may lead to this.

MUCH rather I'd suggest to see the local library, and have a look at recent brain chemistry publications/books. They will go more into detail then this, have nice pictures et cetera.

Plus, they will be more comprehensive and have a much broader coverage than any website will have.

The trouble with your question seems to be that it is too broad in nature, and yet you ask for details...

For the potential sideeffects of prescriptions, I am sure there are some databases that post data useful for the consumer - I remember when I had to research HIV prescriptions, I found some databases on the web.

They are probably more impartial than a place that is trying to sell its medicines...

PS beware though that there are mental illnesses whose effects you can't see on MRI scans... while of course there are others that you can.

thanks for the reply.

i know my quesion was worded sorta wierd. I was wondering about general brain functions and then jumped the gun because i plan to research some illnesses and perscriptions used for those illnesses once i have more of a backround.

What are some medical journals/ magazines that are released on basis that i could read into? My local library is somewhat small so i most likely have to have them ship it in from a larger library.

Also, i know some illnesses can't be detected (with solid proof as of now) and that some that can be detected may not show all that is really happening. This is where i can concoc some hypothesis on my own after some legitmate reading

How true are all the story about people living whith uncommon encephalus standards, reduced brain mass,
whithout handicaps,nor major discomfort?
Its just a U.Legend orthere is something about it.
we know about lobotomia or partial damage experience little/no change, but I read some extreme cases.

With the presidential BRAIN initiative, we'll be writing and re-writing much in the next 15 years.

I'd recommend the companion publication to the brain bee, it's free online. http://www.brainfacts.org/About-Neuroscience/Brain-Facts-boo...
