Lanthanides and Actinides

Hi. I would like to know if Lanthanides and Actinides are classified as group 3 elements? If not, what group do they belong to? I would be happy if someone could refer to a source when answering this question. Thank you by forehand.

Yes, and no. There's a decent summary at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_3_element#Group_borders

They're f-block as opposed to d-block elements, meaning you're faced with a similar situation as with the appearance of the d-block group )the coinage metals don't resemble the alkali metals that much, do you include them as Group 1?)
