Safety in terms of sickness

I have recently gotten into chemistry and I wanted to know how safe it is in terms of damaging my brain or other vital organs from chemistry.

I have made ammonium permanganate, acetone peroxide and other things that can be bought OTC.

Your brain won't be damaged from these, the only problem that can occur is that it could explode in you hands... And in that case you can lose a couple of fingers...

I've been working in an organic lab for a while now and been using a lot kond of solvents/reagents, some of them carcinogen, mutagen, harmless, toxic, ect. and I'm still alive... So, I think that others could also survive.

I have a blog where I post my pictures from my work: http://labphoto.tumblr.com/
-Pictures from chemistry, check it out(:
