calcium phosphate tribasic

I recently came across a one pound container of calcium phosphate tribasic, N.F. (powder)(precipatated) while digging around in my workshop. Is this of any use to anyone? From Mallinckrodt Chemical Works. Been here 15 years or so. Thanks in advance.

OK, perhaps a little more expensive path (but no shipping cost or wait) could not one make Ca3(PO4)2 by mixing CaCl2 with Na3PO4 in hot water (as Tri-Sodium Phosphate is not especially soluble in cold water). Reaction:

3 CaCl2 + 2 Na3PO4 --> Ca3(PO4)2 (s) + 6 NaCl

Filter, rinse and dry.

Both CaCl2 (in Damp Rid) and Na3PO4 (marketed as TSP for Tri-Sodium Phosphate) are for sale at Home Depot, albeit a bit pricey.

How is it used to make phosphorous? Any other uses?

Industrially by heating with coke and silica. Hobbyists tend to use sodium metaphosphate, silica and aluminium powder. See the relevant sticky thread for reactions and details.

Although my thirst for knowledge is endless, once I hit the 50 year old mark my ambition has been in decline. I really have no need for the calcium phosphate and would be happy to pass it along to whomever might want/need it.
