methyl acrylate from carpet fibre

There doesn't seem to be an OTC way to methylacrylate. I have searched on or boards for a long time now, but have found nothing. Eastman has the simplest method, adaptable to the amateur (possibly), but I'd like to know how a real amateur with limited supplies, might go about this. Can it be done.

You can thermally crack pieces of plexiglass to methyl methacrylate.

There is a thread here. I found it on my first attempt at a google search: http://www.sciencemadness.org/talk/viewthread.php?tid=15569

There is also a prep in Vogel, apparently.

I seem to have read your post wrong. My apologies.

Why apologize, UnintentionalChaos. I like your quote (below). Reminds me of Brazil when the cops incorrectly arrested someone's husband, and they said, "Here's your receipt, and here's your receipt for your receipt".

Supposedly most "latex" paint these days is an emulsion of acrylate polymer in water... Pyrolysis would surely yield acrylate esters..

I thought carpet was terephthalate based?
