FTP Sites Wanted For Chemistry & Chemical Engineering E-book & Program Downloads

I would like to know if posters on these scientific newsgroups can share
any FTP site(s), or HTTP sites linking to FTP or other protected sites,
including log-in names and passwords, from which chemistry and chemical
engineering and related e-books, publications and programs (not
available to the general public from unprotected HTTP sites) can be
downloaded free. These can include, especially, university FTPs.

To start things off, I would like to share:

(a) one such site, which links to protected sites for such downloads:

http://www.todoquimica.net/modules.php
Another URL for downloads associated with it is:
http://ingquimica.com/modules.php

One has to register to become a subscriber to the site (believed located
in Chile), which has an on-line forum. The site itself and the forum
posts are mostly in Spanish, but almost all the publications that can be
downloaded through links provided by various subscribers on the site are
in English. I recently (earlier this month) downloaded, through a Yahoo
Briefcase link provided a subscriber to the site, a collection of 14
important classical chemical engineering textbooks, in English,
published between the late 1960s and early 2000s, which someone in
Spanish-speaking South America, probably Chile, had digitized and
converted to PDF format (as ZIP and RAR archives) with all
illustrations, using copies in a university chemical engineering
library. The links (to the parts of a RAR split archive called
"chelibri";) are supposed to be still valid until the end of July, so you
should download NOW if you want them; they are:

They are packed in the form of the 46 parts of the split RAR archive,
plus a SFV "check" file. Use WinRAR 3.0 to re-join and open the complete
archive, after downloading (passwords given below).

The following books, with file sizes, are in this split RAR archive as
separate RAR archives:
contents of chelibri.*
7.429.884 Baasel, W. D. (1974). Preliminary Chemical Engineering Plant

The password for opening and extracting from the split RAR archive is:
PP4YBC ; to open the individual book archives after extracting them from
it, use the password IQeMule . These passwords are case-sensitive.

(b) The FTP site: ftp://books:books@myebooks.dyndns.org
has "chemistry", "physics", "math", and "engineering" folders, with
several e-books of likely interest here. It is run by someone in Poland,
of German ancestry, judging by the large number of German files.
However, it is VERY SLOW, allowing only 3 connections to one IP at a
time, with a maximum rate of only 1.5 kb/sec for each connection, a
total bandwidth of only 10 Kb/sec, a timeout of about 5 minutes between
downloads, and at times it can be accessed only by a dialup connection
or through a Polish proxy server, and it is often off-line from about 10
p.m. to 10 a.m. GMT.

If anyone can reciprocate with other such links, please do. Current
university students are especially likely to help here, provided that
they post here anonymously, as universities usually have FTP sites with
plenty of material.

The FTP site: ftp://books:books@myebooks.dyndns.org seems pretty good. I had been looking for "Nitration and aromatic reactivity" and they have it. This site is the first positive thing I have found to do with my dialup connection with 5kbps/s download speed:o. Wow a 680kb file is taking over 20min to download:o, I wonder how long it will take to download "nitration and aromatic reactivity":( This will take a very long time but it will be worth it. Thanks JohnWW.

We have two unnoficial FTP's here. Aptly called FTP and FTP2:D. You will have to inquire to Axehandle and Eliteforum via U2U to discuss whether or not you will be granted access.

Not very long if you dl it from axehandles forum ftp where it is to be found since the ftp opened business.... ;)

No need to run the polish dial-up down.

My wish would be that the stuff gets up on our ftp´s - the polish guy will be thankful I guess....
Maybee it is possible to offer him ftp-access here in return? axehandle? eliteforum? Thats up to you of course.

Concretely the site is located in Spain, but we have a lot of users (subscribers) of other countries, but generally the vast majority of information is in spanish.

I am one of the webmasters and I am pleased to invite all of you to visit this site.

Re: FTP Sites etc.

It appears that the Yahoo Briefcase links I gave for the RAR archive of 14 chemical engineering ebooks are now dead, although the chap, called "Pipi", who gave the links said they would be available until the end of July.

I can only suggest that you get onto the chemistry forum site
(which mostly uses Spanish, of which I happen to have some knowledge)
http://www.todoquimica.net/modules.php
, which I now believe is based in Spain although most of its members are
in South America, register as a member, and (preferably in Spanish) ask
for "Pipi" to reinstate the "chelibri" links. For what it is worth, I received the
email containing the download links from the email address
warez@ureach.com , and it gave chelibri@todoquimica.net as a reply
address.

In the near future, when I have time, I will be uploading the 14 chemical engineering
books (in English), unpacked and repacked as PDFs in individual ZIP
files without any password, and a lot of other stuff, to the upload
folder of our forum's FTP site.
