NH4 Nitrotetrazolate

Hi,

I've got my first little batch of CuNT ready, now I want to try the Ammonium salt.

I read engagers method via the barium salt.

Since I cannot safely dry CuNT I can only estimate it's weight.
That's why barium hydroxide is used in excess.

Now theres in solution:
-the barium salt
-CuOH, forms CuO upon heating and drops out
-and some of the excess BaOH left over...

Now I calculate from the CuO dropped out how much nitrotetrazolate ions are in the solution and add the enough NH4 sulfate for any of them.
The NH4 Nitrotetralolate will form and BaSO4 will drop out.

But the NH4 sulfate will also react with the excess BaOH -> more BaSO4.

Why the hassle measuring out the CuO weight?
In the end all the barium should be in form of BaSO4. So why not use just enough NH4 sulfate for any barium to form BaSO4?
Do I make a mistake I don't see at the moment?

Have you tried using anhydrous MgSO4 to dry it out? Should be able to use low temps and get most of it

When do you mean, in the end?
I carefully evaporated the water with a little heat. A slightly greenish salt, with a little BaSO4 particles in there.

Since you have to cook the free ammonia off before, a careful heat drying wont hurt any more (I think...).

I did not weigh anything yet but the yield is not to great - the yield of wathever that greenish salt slurry is....;)
