Bought 5g on eBay and 2 different references for preparation
one says 0.1% in water the other says 0.1% in EtOH why is there a difference which one is best why do you think there are different preparations?

I did a little searching and found 0.5% in water as well.
Most references indicated that the compound is soluble in both water and alcohol, so I suspect one choses the solvent according to the use - if you're simply doing an aqueous titration, use the aqueous solution. I didn't follow up but I saw references to using titan yellow as a fluorescent indicator for Mg - maybe doing such on microscope slides works better with ethanolic solutions?
