Hydrazine And Its Derivatives

Just ordered an older(1984) used copy from amazon.com. If it doesn't already exist
on the FTP, I'd like to scan it and upload. Any comments or suggestions ?

BTW, I saw some newer versions retailing for as much as $1200 so I think I got a bargain.
Apparently, all versions have the practical methods for the preparation of hydrazine.

Follow up

It seems that the newer versions deal more with the organic derivatives and environmental
impact. If it's too large for the FTP, I'll send out versions on CD-ROM. My apologies
for the double-post.

MadHatter, how much would you charge for the CD. Blank CD cost + Shipping? That + Labour? Or whatever?

I started scanning part of the latest edition (and lost everything during my computer crash last year), but haven't recommenced it due to time constraints. I'd only bother with the first few chapters (the preparation ones), and possibly the derivative ones, but later it goes on for hundreds of pages on its use as rocket fuel and so on.

One problem I found is the the reference section. It is rather enormous (like 300 pages). However it contains all the details to the methods mentioned, and of course thousands of references that are of no direct interest to us. So it's tricky, either one scans both books (2000 pages) where the preparation chapters and the refs. are of interest, or one concentrates only on the latter.
Depends how much free time you have really....

Hydrazine

Chemoleo, your point is well taken. Mostly, I want to stick to the 'syntheses' where possible.
That way I can keep the file size down. I don't know how well this will play out for CD-ROMs.
It looks like I'll have wait until I start doing the actual scans.

Cyclonite4, I have plenty of CD-Rs that were given to me as a Christmas present and
I rarely use them. Most of my work is done on DVD+RW anyway. If the postage is
cheap, I'll send them out at no charge !

Filesize problem

If it's possible to convert the scans to black/white without a loss of information, the filesize wouldn't be a problem, as you can use the Silx-compression in that case. By Silx-compression it's feasible to create a PDF with 2000 pages, which is under 40 MB (even with a high resolution of 600 dpi).

Delay

I was temporarily delayed because my old Microtek scanner crapped out. Tomorrow, I'm
installing a Lexmark copier/printer/scanner combo and get the scanning process started.

OCR

I've gotten several pages scanned already. Axehandle sent the info I need for the FTP.
One thing's for sure, the OCR software for this Lexmark is a hell of a lot better than that shit
that came with the Microtek. Fewer errors = less editing time. The scanned file will be
in a text format that takes up less space than an actual scanned image. Just need to proofread
before uploading.

Scanning the book

The index and 1st chapter of Hydrazine And Its Derivatives, 1st Edition, 1984, are now
available on the FTP under the HYDRAZINE folder. The 1st chapter will probably interest
members the most. It discusses the production of hydrazine and its compounds. Currently working
on the 2nd chapter about physical properties. Time has been an enemy for me but I'm
back on it now.

P.S. The OCR software still SUCKS !

Hydrazine And Its Derivatives

I'm pleased to report that the book Hydrazine And Its Derivatives - First Edition 1964
has been scanned in by my associate, TMP as you know him at RS. TMP had been delayed
for over a year and and half because of his job. Even as a co-administrator, TMP will not
allow me to release pages of the book until it meets his approval. Besides, he owns
the damn book. What can I say ? He's paying the bills.

Anyway, he's editing by chapter. A total control freak he is ! He wont' allow me or any
other chaps to participate. IMHO, his obsesion will kill him in the end. At least his work
will be good. If he doesn't die of a heart attack, FTP members should look for
his good works.
