The correct way to phrase the question would be:

Hello, I was thinking about synthesising isoamyl alcohol. I did some searching on google and found that it says it can be made by "distillation of fusel oil or the mixed alcohols resulting from the chlorination and hydrolysis of pentane" what exactly does that mean, does anyone have an easier method, more over the counter? Also, I noted that there is a primary and secondary form, what exactly does that mean, I plan to use it for [insert real or made up use here] so does it really matter?

think you could make it out of ethanol and isopropanol?

ethanol---(H2SO4)--->ethene (E1 dehydration)

isopropanol---(conc HCl)-->isochloropropane (protonation, sN2)

this is the stretch- would refluxing isochloropropane with ethene yield isoamyl chloride? i know the formation of a primary carbocation is really, really pushing it. any idea how to push the reaction forward?

If you just need a liter, search for it on Ebay.

If you need a synthesis, maybe a crossed condensation between ethyl acetate and acetone->dehydration->reduction.
