Large pictures destroying lay-out.
In some threads people post large pictures or very long links which destroys the lay-out.
This causes that when normally a sentence would 'flow' to another line, this sentence will be out of the reach of the (my) screen...
This is very annoying, I have to drag the screen from left to right to read whole posts, and this makes me seasick and grumpy.
Could people please take care that if a long link is posted, it maybe does make sense to make hyperlink of it, and in the case of posting pictures,
please post either something which isn't too big, or place thumbnails.
To make thumbnails:
Many sites, like photobucket, offer a special HTML-tag to do such a thumbnail, there is also another, more general tag, but don't have that at
hand...
I can look it up if people are interested though.

Taaie I'm sure I'm at the top of your guilty list. I've worried about this but haven't changed yet mostly due to ignorance. When
I looked for a method in the free Paint Shop I have it looked like I couldn't reduce the size without buying the complete software. But I just
didn't want to run out and buy something if there is a better way. Also, wouldn't a thumbnail be too small? Don't people want some
detail?

I think it's more about inline pictures, rather than attachments. Very broad inline pictures force you to scroll, which can be annoying.

The nice trick of a thumbnail is that you can click on it, and it will open in a new screen pull-size!
An own example:

Click on the pic to see the full-size picture. If you quote me, you can probably see the code for this thing. In photobucket (which is a very good
free service to manage pics) this tag is automaticaly generated and you can just copy-paste it. Very nice and easy... . If I find the one with the official HTML-code I'll post that one aswel.
The photo is of a large chunk of Potassium with a shitload of K2O2 on it by the way...

The one thread that pops into my head at once that has this problem is the "Where's Waldo" thread in Whimsy.
I'd have to say it's slightly annoying to scroll back and forth, and it would be better if people were to resize/host their pictures
elsewhere so that it'll fit onto the screen (i.e. no pictures larger than a certain dimension)
However, this might conflict with people that use varying screen resolutions (i.e. what fits in the window and results in no scrolling in a 1024 * 768
resolution screen may not be the same for a 800 * 600)

I think with a width of 550 pixels no-one will be suffering from seasickness...
Found something:
-Go to HERE
-Download and install program.
-Open the program and open in the program your picture
-Click image, than Resize/Resample image.
-Set 'width' to 550.
-Click ok
-Save picture as... Job done!
Resizing can also be done in most photo-edditing programs like photoshop and coreldraw.

You can just use ms paint, its all I use. Open "image", "stretch & skew" choose the % you want it reduced, click OK.
The problem with using thumbnail HTML, is that it will still have to load the full oversized picture.

If you are using a browser like Firefox though, you can set it so that it rescales the picture automatically (when you click on the thumbnailed
picture) so that it fits in your browser window.

Go to Options -> Advanced -> Browsing. It is set as the default on my computer. Maybe you just have an old release.

I thought the default was that the option was unchecked? Oh well, doesn't matter, in the end, I just save the picture to my desktop and open it
from there (automatically resizes)
